Support of education quality level increase

In order to increase the level of education and training of qualified personnel in the field of energy the Company maintains Programs for Support and Development of the Company’s Human Resources in cooperation with education institutions.

Students of higher education institutions undergo internship in our Company, participate in projects and conferences organized by the Company. Agreements for the conduct of trainings on a budget-funded and fee basis are made with a range of higher education institutions. Managers of the Company act as tutors and academic advisors of students and evaluate diploma papers of future power engineers in the composition of state attestation commissions.

When we contact new education institutions we carry out surveys based on learning outcomes in order to determine further work prospects. Based on the results of previous years of cooperation with education institutions we formulated a few criteria of selection of education institutions:

  • quality of teaching of subjects;
  • applicability and relevance of learning material;
  • correspondence of learning programs and methods to the Company’s and its employees’ requirements;
  • provision of learning and accommodation conditions.

Cooperation between Arkhenergo and the Arkhangelsk Emperor Peter I Forestry Engineering College

Due to the lack of qualified workers (electricians, electric fitters) in remote rural areas the Company organizes primary vocational trainings for newly hired employees and trainings for reservists to positions of master workmen. In this respect we have been cooperating with the Arkhangelsk Emperor Peter I Forestry Engineering College included in Federal State Autonomous Education Institution of Higher Professional Education Northern Arctic Federal University. Personnel of the production department of the Arkhangelsk Electric Grids of Arkhenergo branch are trained in the college under secondary vocational education programs. A target group of trainees was created from among employees of the production department working in remote areas of electric grids. For three years 13 employees have successfully undergone training. In 2013 training of specialists under this program will continue: it is planned to train 5 workers at the expense of the branch and 8 workers on a budget-funded basis under the target training program.

Cooperation between Kolenergo and “Energy and Transport” Department of the Murmansk State Technical University

The tradition has been established since 2010 to plant trees by graduates of “Energy and Transport” Department together with their tutors on Power Engineers’ Alley in the University premises in a grand ceremony.

Since 2003 Kolenergo branch has actively cooperated with the “Energy and Transport” Department of the Murmansk State Technical University (MSTU) under the program “Intellectual Capacity of the Kola Energy Sector”. In 2009 in Kolenergo a branch of “Energy and Transport” department of MSTU was opened. Students study in classrooms of both MSTU and Kolenergo; future power engineers also undergo practical training and prepare their diploma papers in subdivisions of Kolenergo. Kolenergo, on its part, is interested in the inflow of young initiative employees so this many-sided cooperation with MSTU is considered mutually beneficial.

Owing to the existence of the branch of “Energy and Transport” department energy sector specialties have become much more popular with young people. In 2012 303 applications were submitted for 20 state-subsidized places in Electric Power engineering.

Participation in the final attestation board of MSTU

The State Attestation Board of MSTU is by 90% represented by employees of Kolenergo branch of IDGC of the North-West. The Board is headed by Deputy General Director of the Company, Director of Kolenergo branch, Alexandr Maslov. The Board headed by Mr. Maslov annually conducts examinations, preliminary and final defense of diploma projects of graduates majoring in Electric Supply.

Students choose subjects for diploma projects under the guidance of their tutors, specialists of Kolenergo. In their papers future power engineers consider issues of substation equipment modernization, reconstruction of electricity supply schemes, reacting power compensation systems, relay protection and automatics, other aspects of functioning of the energy complex of the Murmansk Region. The main advantage of diploma projects presented is their practical orientation. By example of specific equipment future power engineers estimate opportunities of improvement of electric supply schemes and consider economic and environmental aspects of operation of energy plants and complexes.
